Canon World Glimmer's homeworld is the planet Etheria, where is the queen of the Kingdom of Bright Moon Etheria is a magical place full of all kinds of different people and creatures and is a natural well-spring of magic, which is in part what gives Glimmer her powers. The planet of Etheria is split into multiple kingdoms rules by hereditary queens, kings, and princesses as well as various other independent polities. Shortly before Glimmer is born, roughly, Hordak, a clone of the evil overlord Horde Prime, arrives through an errant portal on Etheria and begins trying to conquer as much of it as he can so he can use its resources to get back to big brother. Glimmer has grown up knowing little but this magical war and has had to transition from following her mother's commands into leading her people through this tumultuous and dangerous time.

Canon History
  • When she is a toddler or perhaps a baby (canon is unclear), her father, King Micah, is apparently killed in battle with the forces of Hordak.
  • During her childhood, she meets and befriends Bow, who becomes her best and only friend for a good portion of her life
  • Glimmer, around sixteen, is officially made a commander in the alliance of kingdoms attempting to fight back the aggressive Hordak. She makes her debut battle in a place expected to be safe and argues with her mother about the necessity of her being allowed to fight
  • She sneaks out of the palace after being grounded. She and Bow meet Adora, who has found a magical sword and has become the powerful magical being She-Ra. They recruit her to the Princess Alliance.
  • Glimmer becomes close friends with Adora and fights alongside her as they attempt to free Etheria from Hordak
  • Glimmer's mother, Angella, dies (or effectively dies, as she is trapped in a space between worlds when stopping Etheria from being destroyed by faulty portal magic). Prior to her death, the last conversation that Glimmer has with her is a loud, unhappy argument, leaving Glimmer burdened with guilt and regret. Glimmer assumes the title of Queen of Bright Moon while mourning her mother. She is roughly 18 at this time.
  • Eager to find a way to stop the Horde, Glimmer turns to the dark sorceress Shadow Weaver and begins learning magic from her. She proves to be a magical prodigy, much like her father
  • As she takes a more hands off approach from the war, she grows frustrated, feeling that her friends Bow and Adora no longer listen to or respect her authority as queen. She insists that they use a magical weapon, the Heart of Etheria, as it will give them the power needed to finally end the war. This weapon was created by the ancient colonists known as 'First Ones' and exists by extracting Etheria's natural magical energy and storing it in the planet's core to be unleashed as a powerful weapon. Glimmer's friends Bow and Adora argue with her about this. Angry that they won't listen to her, Glimmer undertakes her own mission and unleashes the Heart herself, realizing too late that this is a mistake. While the full deployment of the weapon is stopped by Adora, Etheria is shifted from its pocket dimension into normal space, allowing the fleet of Horde Prime to find Etheria.
  • Glimmer is captured by Horde Prime and held prisoner on his headquarters ship along with her foe, Catra

Past Game History

Meadowlark Navigation

  • Glimmer arrives in Meadowlark. She makes friends with a few other displaced arrivals, including Dr. Lance Sweets, who has some previous experience with this dimensional displacement thing. They become friends of a sort. Glimmer finds that her friend Adora is here, along with her enemy, Catra. Both are from earlier points in the canon relative to her and she struggles to find her footing and adjust to the technological city she's arrived in, especially without her magic or powers.
  • Glimmer stays peripherally involved in game events for some time, finding a job and trying to adjust as best she can. During this time, she has a deep heart-to-heart conversation with Catra. Catra, arguably the most responsible individual for the death of Glimmer's mother, confesses this at some point. Glimmer, after some soul-searching and more grieving, decides to forgive Catra so that she can try to move forward with her life.
  • Glimmer meets Ellie Miller through an ill-fated darts game. The two of them have an immediate connection that initially leads to a bit of flirting and talk about each other's pasts. Despite the mutual attraction, they eventually decide that it's better for the both of them to avoid a romantic relationship due to their different life experiences.
  • Around the same time, Glimmer befriends Joe "Jones," an immortal warrior who is neewly arrived in Meadowlark. They bond over a fondness for board games and good food. He offers her support and advice when through discussions she discovers that he cannot die. She discusses her own mortality with him, the loss of her mother, and the fear that she will lose those she loves as she grows older.
  • The whole game is shunted into an alternate universe known as the Aerie where Glimmer is the victor and survivor of a judical deathmatch and where she has a more intimate and closer relationship with Ellie Miller. In this alternate universe, Glimmer is eventually killed by an explosion and wakes back up in the main Meadowlark setting. She struggles with reconciling two pairs of memories, including one where she witnessed the violent death of her mother in the judicial bloodsport. Returning from the alternate universe, she finds that Adora and Catra have vanished.
  • Despite the complications of new memories, or probably because of them, she and Ellie reaffirm their decision not to pursure a romantic relationship. Feeling isolated, confused, and lonely with the disappearance of Adora and Catra, she discusses some of her feelings with Lance who offers what support he can. At this time, she moves in with Ellie to avoid living alone in an empty apartment that reminds her of her absent friends.
  • Glimmer departs Meadowlark and arrives in Fade Rift

Personality

  • Impulsive: Glimmer, despite the best efforts of her teachers and her mother, is an impulsive, straight-forward young woman. She has a tendency to act without thinking and gets easily frustrated by inaction when she feels that she could be doing something useful instead of sitting around. It is this impulse that leads her to be swayed to try and use the Heart of Etheria during season 4 of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. The result of this action is Glimmer nearly setting off the Heart and pulling the Etheria back into normal space, thus placing it at the attentions of Horde Prime. Her impulsive nature means that she can often-times be short-sighted and has a short temper. She gets easily frustrated when her leadership is questioned or when her friends disagree with her on the correct course of action. Combined with her stubborn nature this makes her come off as self-centered, even if she thinks she is putting others first. Her friends see her desire to use the Heart as dangerous and even selfish, based on Glimmer's desire to be back out in the action. Glimmer believes that she needs the Heart in order to defeat the Horde once and for all and thus for the greater good.

  • Kind: Glimmer is a kind young woman with a large heart. She cares deeply about her friends and about the people she feels responsible for. She often throws herself into dangerous situations for the sake of her friends and is unerringly loyal to them and to the protection of her people. She supports both Bow and Adora when they suffer from self-doubt and never loses faith in them. Faced with the knowledge that she has acted poorly and hurt her friends in season 5, Glimmer does everything she can to make amends, apologizing sincerely to both Adora and Bow. Glimmer cares deeply for those around her and has a strong sense of justice which drives her to help others when she can.

  • Brave: Glimmer has been fighting against the Horde since she was 16, and has experience with struggle. She faces down mortal danger and evil conquerors without flinching. She never gives up and continues to fight in spite of her fears. When Horde Prime outlines his plans for Etheria and offers to spare her father if she will give up and submit to him, Glimmer breaks one of his prized trophies in an act of defiance despite being trapped and not knowing if she will ever be rescued.

  • Insecure: Glimmer is still young and has been forced to take on the mantle of being queen after her mother sacrificed herself. Glimmer has still struggled with feeling insecure or unsure of herself since the beginning of canon. Before her connection with the moon stone grew stronger, she struggled with feeling weak or burdensome, as she would have to rest after using her teleportation magic. When her friends disagree with her decision making in season 4, she lashes out at them.

Prior CR
Dr. Lance Sweets - While they weren't extremely close, Lance arrived with Ellie and offered her support and friendship when she struggled with her new situation. A thoughtful, kind man Glimmer was fond of him and his company. He helped her to examine and process some of the complicated, messy feelings that came with the alternate universe incident. A good man and someone who took Glimmer seriously despite her youth.

Joe/Yusuf Al-Kaysani - A warm, almost paternal figure in the short time that Glimmer knew him, she found him to be a comforting presence. In the AU of the Aerie, he knew her mother and offered her support while she struggled with the new role she was forced to take on as a celebrity and victor of the arena. She found Joe's presence comforting and misses their backgammon lessons and tea.

Ellie Miller - Probably her closest friend in Meadowlark. She and Ellie initially met over a game of darts and developed a deep friendship where they empathized with each other over the loss of parental figures and growing up in relatively unstable environments. They shared numerous friendly outings together and had a mutual romantic interest that they eventually declined to pursue due to their life circumstances and feelings of being unprepared for such a connection. They remained close friends and Glimmer lived with Ellie briefly after Catra and Adora disappeared from Meadowlark.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Canon Powers
Glimmer comes from a line of magical queens and powerful sorcerers, and as such has abilities stemming from both parentages.

Teleportation - She is capable of teleporting an unspecified distance, accompanied by a shimmering burst of sparkles. By the canon point she is arriving from, she is capable of teleporting herself and a good half-dozen others at the same time, assuming everyone is touching her or touching someone else who's touching her. This power is innate, but is powered by/connected to the natural magic of Etheria and the natural focus of the Moon Stone. She cannot teleport objects or people she is not touching, with the exception of the magical staff passed down to her by her father. This is reported by her to be innate to the staff and does not apply to any other objects or persons. These powers are partially innate and partially due to her connection to the magic of Etheria through the Moon Stone.

Photokinesis - Also known as 'sparkle powers,' Glimmer is capable of controlling light in several ways. She can create floating orbs of light that help to light her surroundings, can sparkle or create bursts of light that can temporarily blind and disorient others, and can fire blasts of light energy from her hands that are able to do serious damage to/destroy Horde robots and facilities on multiple occasions throughout her canon. These powers, like here teleportation, are partially innate and partially due to her connection to the magic of Etheria through the Moon Stone.

Sorcery - In season four, Glimmer learns sorcery from Shadow Weaver and is shown to be an adept and powerful magic-user. She is shown using several spells, including a truth spell, a divination or location spell to locate people or objects, and a spell that compels the subject to tell the truth. She is also shown to be able to use her magic to create magical barriers and other protective wards to prevent herself and others from being hurt by physical or magical attacks. Her sorcery is able to be used as long as there is a natural source of magic for her to draw from. This magic is not innate.

Hand to hand combat - Glimmer is shown to be an adept hand-to-hand combat fighter both with her bare hands and with a staff which she uses to good effect against Horde soldiers and robots multiple times throughout the series.

Administration - Glimmer is a queen and had to deal with the administrative work of managing her kingdom to some degree. She has experience overseeing and directing others.

Diplomacy - Like her administrative experience, this comes primarily from her role as both a princess and queen which necessitated her dealing with the diplomatic relations of the Princess Alliance and navigating complex social situations, such as the Princess Prom and its various rules of etiquette.

Meadowlark Powers
During her time in Meadowlark, Glimmer developed some powers but never became very skilled or powerful with them during her time in the game:

Phasing - Glimmer gains the ability to pass through solid objects, such as furniture, walls, doors, etc. When this first manifests, Glimmer will be able to only pass through relatively narrow objects, and will only be able to partially penetrate all but the narrowest of obstacles(i.e. stick her head through a door to see who's on the other side of it, reach through a shut window or solid wall). She can pass through a hanging bedsheet or towel, or even a window pane or the windshield of a car but cannot pass entirely through the outer wall of a building or a solid door. She is unable to interact with any physical objects while phasing and can only carry with her objects she already holds or is wearing.

Emphatic memory-sharing - When touching other Displaced in Meadowlark, there would be a sharing of memories and emotions, accompanied by a blue glow.

Dream-sharing - In Meadowlark, the Displaced found that they could enter each other's dreams and experience them together.

Please make sure to read and comply with the FAQ sections on character abilities.

Suggested Nerfs

I would like to keep her canon power-set, if possible. While here teleportation and photokinesis are partially due to her connection to the Moon Stone and magic of Etheria, she is able to use them when able to tap into any natural source of magic.

So for her nerfs I would suggest the following:

Teleportation - Glimmer's teleportation be reduced to being able to teleport to a place within her line of sight and generally only with about a hundred to a hundred and fifty meters. She can only take two others with her at a time. Additionally, without the natural power boost of the Moon Stone, using this power too much will wear her out very quickly and she will need to take substantial rest before being able to use it again if she over-exerts herself.

Sorcery - The magic and spells she learned at home should be able to be used by drawing on the magic of the Fade, though she will find it more difficult it to do until she spends time studying native magical techniques and learns to adapt herself to the Fade's particular 'flavor.'

Arrival Inventory

Glimmer no doubt dreams a lot about home and about the fight against Horde Prime. She misses home very much and longs to return to Etheria.

-Her magical staff (It's a fancy staff that can fire magical blasts similar to Arcane Bolts).
-Her tiara/circlet/crown
-Her canon queenly raiment.

Humanization

She has innate magical powers, birthmarks resembling tiny wings on her upper back, and her hair literally sparkles when the light hits it right. I don't think she'll need any humanization, since she can pass pretty well for just a normal human. Her hair may need to change color to something a bit more muted light brown with reddish undertones, maybe? Otherwise, there's no reason for any changes.

Fit

Glimmer is a magical queen from a magical kingdom, so is already probably a good fit for another fantasy setting right off the bat. She also comes from a fantasy setting that can be a lot more black and white than Thedas, and so has very strong thoughts on right and wrong and how to help people or what the best way to take action is. I think it'd be interesting to have her confront the reality of having to deal in shades of gray (continuing some of her development from Meadowlark) and to let her come back into her own in terms of being a magical being--losing her powers in Meadowlark was fairly traumatic to her and she desperately missed having them and so having them back even in a limited capacity would be good for her. I think she'd also bring something from that black and white-ness, though--a sense of optimism and hope that she imparts to people around her and a determination to get shit done, regardless of the obstacles.
